Join Pack 970!
In the Scout program, scouts learn through the experiences of camping, hiking, building projects, and community service. Scouting fosters self-esteem, a sense of value and belonging, a sense of accountability, and teamwork.
The program strengthens scouts mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually. The skills they learn in Scouting help them overcome obstacles and challenges with courage and character throughout their lives.
We'll start by telling you "Everything you want to know about Cub Scouts". Then continue below for more information.

How much does it cost to join Cub Scouts?
Pack Dues:* $125 annually and can be earned from fundraisers. This money goes only to our Pack to pay for our program costs such as buying advancement awards and subsidizing Pack activities like the annual Pinewood Derby.
Book: $24 annually ($13 for Kindergartners/Lions). Every year (every rank) the Cub Scouts have a new book to show you what they will be working on for that year.
National Registration:* $125 annually. This goes to our Council and the BSA national headquarters. None of this money is retained by our Pack.
New Scout Registration:* $25 one time. You only pay this when you first join and then never again. This, again, is a fee that goes to BSA national and not to our Pack.
Uniform Costs: A basic Scout uniform consists of a uniform shirt and a neckerchief. Those total roughly $50 and are available at our local Scout Shop at the Scout Resource Center near 41st and Garnett, 4295 South Garnett.
Belts are recommended since the awards for K-3rd grade are metal "belt loops" that are displayed on the Scout's belt. Webelos (4th & 5th graders) awards are pins added to their "colors" or hat.
There are many other items available that make a complete uniform -- hats, pants, socks, and more. But for starters, a shirt and neckerchief are what is needed. CLICK HERE for more information about Cub Scout uniforms.
Other Costs: Pack events and overnight activities are self-funded, and many are free. Pack campouts are generally
$5 per person and are subsidized by the Pack.
Additional activities at the District and Council levels do have added costs, but are completely optional. An example is the fall Spook-O-Ree. It is a Council level one night overnight campout at the end of October and costs $15/youth and $10/adult. There are other similar camping and outdoor opportunities like this throughout the year. Again, these are optional.
*Fees are non-refundable.
Volunteer
The Scouting program does not work without volunteers: Den Leaders, Cubmasters, Assistant Cubmasters, Treasurers, Secretaries, and Coordinators. Scouting volunteers come to Scouting from a variety of backgrounds and experiences—plumbers, lawyers, housewives, teachers, doctors, janitors, and scientists—all involved in leading youth to become responsible, caring, and competent citizens.
Through volunteering with the Pack 970, you will work with elementary school-age scouts to build a better future for everyone.
